Reiki is a gift that everyone possesses and uses on a daily basis even if they don’t realize they are doing so. This is a form of holistic, hands on healing that stimulates the natural healing abilities of a person. Reiki is a way to become one with all living things in our world, it is neither positive nor negative. This healing technique is based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being.
The origins of Reiki trace back thousands of years, before Christ and Buddha. It originated in India and the East. The traditional method of teaching Reiki was for knowledge to be passed down from generation to generation, which caused the original name, disciplines, and techniques to be lost. Eventually, the art of the discipline was rediscovered and renamed Reiki by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Scholar and monk. The practices were then continued by future grand masters Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, Madam Hawayo Takata, and Phylis Lei Furumuto.
The meaning behind the name Reiki can be broken into two pieces, Rei, and Ki. Rei means universal, omnipresent. Ki is the non-physical vitality that gives life to all living things.
Reiki has been described as “pure unconditional love and joy, bringing all who experience and embrace its principles together in harmony”.
No matter your age, young or old, you can practice Reiki. The art of this discipline is easy to learn. There is no limitation to how it can be used or what it can be used on, whether it be people, animals, nature, food, or more. If you regularly practice Reiki, you can help bring balance to your mind, body, and spirit.
